“Two Kinds Of Being” a part of my PhD research

“Two Kinds of Being”
From my early student days I have been seriously interested in combining imagery with sculpture.  This became more prominent in my work from the series ”Loves and Vanities” to my current work “Requiem for ED”.
At the RCA the practice element of my research program concerned experimenting with methodologies with which to integrate form and space with the two-dimensional image, essentially photographic, culminating in the body of work “Two Kinds of Being”*.   Thematically it has strong existential overtones and examines the relationship between the conscious and subconscious of the physical being and it’s sense of identity.

*My PhD research was entitled “Two Kinds of Being – An Interface Between Sculpture and Photography”. (RCA 1996)
